Johnny makes a lot of sounds, a lot of different ways, and is combining them all into a giant hodge podge unlike the world has ever seen before. From relaxing sound bath ceremonies, to producing ambient music for guided meditations infused with healing frequencies, to performing live combining guitar, beatboxing, keys and looping it all live, jeez louise folks it’s hard to keep track these days, and I should know because I’m him. But it’s a bio so I’m writing like I’m talking about me. Anyways, that’s Johnny boom thanks for listening.
Johnny is an alumni of the Sage Academy of Sound, a multi-weekend sound healer certification course. He uses different sound healing instruments to bring about a deep state of relaxation, in which the body begins to heal itself. Each sound bath experience is unique, journeying through a variety of different healing instruments, including the shruti box, crystal bowls, gongs, Himalayan singing bowls, flutes, chimes, and tuning forks…just to name a few. Johnny creates a safe space to let go, and dive deep within.
In addition to facilitating sound healing ceremonies, Johnny is also a conscious music producer. He creates music for guided breathwork ceremonies and meditations, incorporating sound healing elements into the productions. As a classically trained guitarist, professional beatboxer and multi-instrumentalist, he has combined his knowledge as a sound healer, musician and recording engineer to infuse his music with healing frequencies in a unique way.
Johnny is the co-founder of Beats and Breath alongside Christopher August. He uses beat-driven productions for breathwork rounds guided by Chris, with ambient soundscapes in between. The two have created a unique healing modality called “Sonic Breathwork”. Beats and Breath has an online library with a range of courses and breathwork recordings to offer, as well as offering in person ceremonies.
Music found Johnny at a young age, when he picked up the guitar at the age of 14. He performed with bands in high school before attending SUNY Fredonia for classical guitar and sound recording technology. It wasn't until his senior year of college that Johnny learned how to beatbox and quickly became obsessed. He moved to New York City, where he assimilated into a community of beatboxers, which helped shape who he is today. Since then, Johnny has worked with non-profit arts organizations such as the Hip Hop Re:education Project and Urban Art Beat, and has performed at events such as the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival and the Trinity Hip Hop Festival (where he opened for Talib Kweli). At the American Beatbox Championships in 2015, he placed 2nd in both the loop station and 2v2 battles. He has performed internationally, from Toronto, to Berlin, to Krakow. He also toured nationally with the professional a cappella group Backtrack Vocals.
As a performer, Johnny combines all of his biggest influences in music into one. Combining rock guitar riffs, influenced by classic rock and metal, with heavy bass and downtempo grooves influenced by his beatboxing path, and a beautiful melodic side reflective of his classical background, Johnny creates a truly unique sound. And what’s crazy is…all of this is performed live! During his performances, Johnny bounces from solo beatboxing, to looping guitar, beatbox, and keys, to full blown production, playing instruments live the entire time. It is a truly unique performance experience.
